On a chilly Sunday morning in May over 50 enthusiastic people headed to Rocky Creek Hut at Kuitpo Forest to attend the 2nd ‘Run for Rangers – Fun Run’.
This year, two family-friendly courses were set up, an easy 5km and a little more challenging 10km course, both courses were set amongst the eucalypt and pine forest within Kuitpo Forest, south of Adelaide. It was a great way to start a Sunday morning in an amazing setting.
Forestry SA Rangers Rachel & Kieran support the planning for the event and along with SARA committee members and a number of Forestry SA staff and SARA members made the day a success.
Funds raised through ticket sales and merchandise sales was around $1000 which will go to the Thin Green Line Foundation TGLF. This foundation supports a number of projects for Rangers around the world, including the Fallen Ranger fund, which provides support to widows and children of rangers who have died whilst protecting their local environment. You can find out more about the foundations works at www.thingreenline.org.au.
President of SARA Tammy Leggett said “It was great to hold this event again and to see the support. People really enjoyed it and due to popularity included the 10km course as well. It was great Sean Willmore - Founder of the Thin Green Line Foundation was able attend and to chat with the participants” she said “SARA’s members are so passionate about the work which they do and raising money to support environmental programs within SA, and the Thin Green Line Foundation. We can see the benefits of the programs which help natures protectors. It’s also an excellent way to get people outside of SARA involved.”
We are looking to run the event in 2023, so please help support SARA and the Thin Green Line Foundation– if you are interested in helping out or want more information, please get in touch through our e-mail DEW.SARangerAssocation@sa.gov.au
